What is Google Antigravity?

Antigravity 2.0, launched at Google I/O on May 19, 2026, is Google's agent-first development platform: a standalone desktop app where several agents plan, write, run, and verify code in parallel, plus a Go-based CLI that replaces Gemini CLI, an SDK for embedding the agent harness, and Managed Agents in the Gemini API that run in isolated Linux environments. Gemini 3.5 Flash is the default model; a free tier signs in with a Google account, and paid access comes with Google AI Pro and Ultra plans. Gemini CLI consumer access ended June 18, 2026.

Key features

  • Multiple agents running in parallel with custom sub-agent workflows
  • Antigravity CLI (replaces Gemini CLI) sharing the same agent harness
  • SDK for custom agents on Gemini models
  • Managed Agents: one API call starts an agent in an isolated Linux environment
  • Skills, hooks, plugins, scheduled background tasks, voice commands, Chrome extension

Pros

  • The most complete agent toolkit from a single vendor: app, CLI, SDK, and API
  • Free tier is real and includes third-party models per launch coverage
  • Managed Agents remove the sandbox problem for developers

Cons

  • Parallel agents are isolated — they cannot see each other's file changes without a shared layer
  • Managed Agent sessions expire; long workflows must handle TTL
  • Gemini CLI users were given a hard cutoff rather than a gradual migration
