What is Duolingo Max?
Duolingo Max adds AI features on top of the standard Duolingo app — "Explain My Answer" for understanding grammar mistakes, and "Roleplay" for open-ended AI conversation practice — aimed at learners who've outgrown pure gamified drilling.
Key features
- AI-generated grammar explanations for wrong answers
- Open-ended AI roleplay conversation practice
- Built on top of Duolingo's existing gamified curriculum
- Available in Duolingo's widest range of supported languages
- Streak and gamification features carried over from the base app
Pros
- Benefits from Duolingo's huge existing language catalog and content library
- Explain My Answer genuinely clarifies grammar mistakes the base app just marks wrong
- Familiar gamified format for existing Duolingo users adding AI on top
Cons
- AI features are limited to Duolingo's most popular languages, not the full catalog
